VG+. Square 8vo, original blue cloth lettered in gilt, with mounted pictorial label. 71 pp. Frontispiece and seven photographic plates; many text illustrations throughout, mostly printed in blue. Spine tips slightly bumped and rubbed, else fine. First Edition. Wells wrote this book for his two sons, to suggest the toys, props, and layouts one might assemble to play imaginative games--generally martial--on nursery floors. Wells took the photographs himself, and the lads shown constructing a fort in the cover plate are his two sons. An interesting presentation of youthful fantasy by one of the greatest authors of fantastic adventures.
